Review of Durable Solutions initiatives in East Africa

The search for durable solutions to protracted displacement situation in East and Horn of Africa is a key humanitarian and development concern. This is a regional/cross border issue, dynamic and with a strong political dimension which demands a multi-sectorial response that goes beyond the existing humanitarian agenda.

By reviewing existing initiatives, frameworks and commitments in the search of durable solutions in the region, this study conducted by Samuel Hall looks at good practices, challenges and opportunities. The objective is to have a better understanding of the current solutions landscape in order to improve coordination and to inform a learning and capacity development agenda across stakeholders.

This study was commissioned by the Regional Durable Solutions Secretariat (ReDSS). ReDSS was created in March 2014 with the aim of maintaining a focused momentum and stakeholder engagement towards durable solutions for displaced and displacement affected communities. This publication was commissioned by ReDSS and conducted solely by Samuel Hall.
