Action Contre la Faim (ACF) has been working in the Samangan province since 2011. ACF is working in two districts in the province, namely Dar-e-Suf Bala and Dar-e-Suf Payin where the availability of water is moderate and restricted to natural springs and kandas, traditional water reservoirs which usually provide unsafe water for drinking. Sanitation is also challenging in the area where people have only access to traditional toilets without septic tank or practice open defecation. In the past ACF has implemented two projects funded by SIDA in the two districts both aimed at improving access to water and hygiene practices. In February 2013 a final evaluation has been carried out to measure not only achievements from this last intervention but to globally evaluate ACF activities in the two districts. The field research and desktop review focused on determining the impact of the project and its long-term sustainability and continuity. It also explored the coherence of this intervention with local, national and ACF policies and the coordination among different actors.
