Evaluation of The Arche Project: Centre of Traumatology

The Arche de Kigobe Trauma Centre project implemented between 2015 and 2021 in Burundi by the Brussels-based Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) Operational Centre  Brussels (OCB) is a project started in response to an acute violent crisis in connection with the electoral dispute in Burundi in 2015. The project aimed to reduce mortality and morbidity related  to trauma in the city of Bujumbura and its surroundings. Initially an emergency project, it made an adjustment in its structure to integrate the care of victims of road accidents, victims of sexual violence, and psychological care.

To assess the results of the project and its replicability in Burundi or other contexts, MSF commissioned a final external evaluation that was conducted from June to October 2021 by a team of external evaluators, after the closure of the Arche Centre. The evaluation focused on the criteria of relevance, coherence, effectiveness, efficiency, impact and sustainability; it also analysed cross-cutting themes of gender and contribution to the preservation of the environment.
