Evaluation of FAO’s contribution to Georgia 2016-2019

Georgia is a lower-middle income country, and 39 percent of its economically active population is engaged in agriculture. However, agriculture's potential is being constrained by low productivity and insufficient development of extension services in the country. Aligned with Georgia's national development priorities, FAO's programme has rendered relevant technical and policy advice since 2016, contributing to the development of national strategies, institutional frameworks, and relevant policies and plans. FAO has also played a leading role in national coordination platforms on food and agriculture; however, future programmes should focus on supporting practical implementation and consolidating the achievements. The evaluation also recommends that FAO integrate clear sustainability and exit strategies, and set up its engagement in addressing potential risks in the agricultural sector.
