In June 2002 the Central Asian National Societies (CANS) signed a joint agreement to initiate a process to revise their structure and statutes to clarify the role of governance and management. This was with the intention to achieve greater accountability, transparency and effectiveness. In April 2008, the regional office of the Federation commissioned an evaluation of the work to develop the governance and management of the CANS. From 1 15 April the consultant visited three National Societies, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to undertake interviews and focus groups discussions with staff and members of governance at branch and head-quarter levels. In addition, key members of the Federation, ICRC and partner National Societies were also interviewed.
