In 2006, Oxfam America commissioned Ms. Chaman Pincha to study and review the process of Gender integration in Post Tsunami Humanitarian response in India. The study offers insights and perspectives that leverages the efforts of the humanitarian organizations in addressing gender-based vulnerabilities and needs. The field work in this research is compelling. It demonstrates a thoroughness in its coverage of the varied issues present at grassroots level and penetrates the gender divide. The study brings to the fore many gendered realities that are sure to surprise even the seasoned advocates of the issue. Most importantly the research offers concrete, actionable suggestions and recommendations to humanitarian agencies, to improve gender mainstreaming strategies proactively in their future disaster response and risk reduction work.
