The Ending Drought Emergencies Initatve (EDE) is a new approach that recognises that droughts cause emergencies because the foundatons needed to support sustainable livelihoods in drought-prone areas – principally security, infrastructure and human capital (educaton, health and nutriton) – are ofen weak. This weakness is due to historical imbalances in investment, which are recognised by the Consttuton and one of the drivers of devoluton. The EDE initatve will accelerate investment in these development foundatons as well as strengthen the insttutons responsible for managing drought risks.
