The ongoing conflict in Syria has resulted in a large-scale humanitarian crisis with important public health policy implications. An estimated two million Syrians have escaped to neighbouring countries of Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq. Millions more people remain displaced within Syria’s borders. International inspectors have now entered Syria and have been tasked with the challenge of safely dismantling and destroying chemical weapons. This Forum event, presented in collaboration with PRI’s The World and WGBH, examined the practicalities and decision-making driving the humanitarian response to this unfolding world event.

Presented in collaboration with PRI’s The World & WGBH.

Expert Participants: Paul Spiegel of UNHCR, Jennifer Leaning of FXB Center for Health and Human Rights, Harvard University, Michael VanRooyen of Harvard Humanitarian Initiative, Recep Akdag (Former Minister of Health, Turkey) & Jeanne Guillemin of MIT Security Studies Program.
