An invitation to an ALNAP Workshop on Supporting Innovation in Humanitarian Organisations.

This planned event aims to encourage systematic thinking about innovation across the ALNAP membership. It will attempt to achieve this by the following 2 steps approach.

Rational for a workshop on innovations
In light of a growing humanitarian caseload, and increasingly complex operating environments for humanitarian agencies, the need to develop better ways of delivering aid is more essential than ever. Until recently, much of the work on learning and accountability has focused on existing practices, policies and norms of behaviour, and involves detecting and correcting deviations and variances from these standards. And increasingly, the humanitarian system has moved toward a culture of compliance, characterised by rigid contractual relationships between agencies and donors, and increased standardisation within agencies. All of this has pushed agencies to deliver their services according to pre-defined goals, methods and targets.
