Objectives of the study

The purpose of the study is to generate food security and vulnerability information to help policy and decision makers to design and implement programs that contribute to the reduction of urban food insecurity and vulnerability. The specific objectives of the study include:
· To identify food security and livelihoods problems, constraints, strategies and coping
mechanisms among different social and economic groups in the selected major towns of
Somali, Harari and Dire Dawa Regions;
· To do an in-depth analysis of major factors to food and livelihoods insecurity in the
selected towns in order to inform policy and program design as well as potential areas of
interventions;
· To establish baseline data on urban vulnerability and lay foundation for developing a
practical monitoring system that provides an early indication of food insecurity and
livelihoods vulnerability;
· To assess the impact of Government initiatives with regard to cereal price stabilization
program and identify gaps and problems encountered.
