Final Independent Evaluation of the Food Security Programme, ‘Gardens for Improved Nutrition', Zimbabwe

With funding from USAID, ACF implemented a one year project in rural Zimbabwe with the objective to improve the nutritional status of vulnerable households in the communal areas of Chivi, Gutu and Mberengwa districts through integrated food security and WaSH. All 3 districts are classified as food insecure with high levels of malnutrition. Further, rainfall is low and highly erratic. In addition to food insecurity, the target districts face chronic shortages of water for domestic use. The project was implemented from April 2010 to March 2011. Following the end of this project, ACF contracted the services of an external evaluator to undertake an end-of-term evaluation. The purpose of the evaluation was to enhance operational performance as well as a way to increase ACF-IN accountability towards beneficiaries, partners and donors. The evaluation objective was to assess the performance and impact of the project thereby promoting learning and enhancing ACF's implementation processes in the future.
