ACF implemented an applied research project from June through November 2010 to determine the effectiveness of using a Ready-To-Use Food (RUF), Plumpy Doz as a component in a Food-For-Training (FFT) feeding program to prevent malnutrition among children 6-35 months of age in an urban environment. ACF decided to implement a cash-based or a food-based intervention to address food insecurity in Abeché in line with ACF/Chad’s 2010-2012 Country Strategy, 2009 and 2010 nutritional surveys which were in that town, and a February 2010 feasibility study for implementing a conditioned food assistance in Abeché. In January, 2010 it was decided in Headquarters (HQ) to associate applied research on the effectiveness of using RUF in conjunction with such assistance. Abeché was chosen over options in the C.A.R., the Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso.
