In a context where a wildlife conservation approach has predominated so far, the project "Sustainable management of wildlife and the bushmeat sector in Central Africa" seeks to demonstrate that participatory wildlife management can be a viable strategy for conserving the functions, integrity and biodiversity of the forest ecosystem, as well as improving the livelihoods of local communities in the Congo Basin. The evaluation concluded that certain advances have helped consolidate the transition from the conservation paradigm to the one combining the conservation approach and that of participatory bushmeat management. The evaluation also recommended strengthening advocacy to encourage the countries concerned to make a greater commitment to continue the efforts initiated, which would contribute to developing participatory wildlife management.
