This study seeks to fill the vacuum of knowledge on market functioning in Lebanon. It addresses the observation of an external evaluation report (WFP-ODI, 2015) on insufficient analysis of markets to back specific programme design decisions. In particular, it analyses the micro-level impact for Lebanese traders of three years of market-based food assistance to Syrian refuges by the World Food Programme. It also discusses alternatives to transfer modality options. Finally, this report is intended to inform the new country programme strategy for the coming years. The primary data for this study were collected in March-April 2015 in Lebanon.
