The HPP/IrishAid supported “Emergency Nutrition for Vulnerable Families-Increased Resilience to Food Security“ is implemented from April 2014- March 31/2015 in Boricha woreda of Sidama zone, SNNPR by GOAL and its government partners. This project followed a new approach of linking CMAM with livelihood interventions. The findings indicate that GOAL has attempted to systematically link the nutrition component to livelihood interventions. This has been found essential by beneficiary community while seed support intervention were a good source of income to diversify their livelihood and relevant to beneficiary needs in addressing acute protein shortage in malnourished children. Moreover, the support of GOAL has been found relevant and complementing the government local level endeavours in health, food security, capacity building and promotion of agriculture. Except in the case of promotion of improved storage to minimize post-harvest losses, the GOAL mission has been met and in most cases like treatment of malnourished children has been successful in all parameters of SPHERE standards and GOAL has been able to reach more malnourished children than the plan as well as beneficiaries in general terms. Besides improving household consumption and good child feeding practices, the HPP supported project has contributed to improving livelihood diversification and household level resilience.
