In order to gain insight in the barriers within thetransfer of technology for water and
sanitation applications in developing countries a partnership between the University of
Glasgow and Oxfam GB was formed under the Enhanced Learning and Research for
Humanitarian Assistance initiative.

The overall project objective was to examine issues posing barriers to water supply and
sanitation technological transfer to relief agencies and seek a strategy towards how to make
effective use of scientific developments in humanitarian emergencies. This paper presents the summary of the project results.
