This report summarises a preliminary mission of the Humanitarian Futures Programme (HFP) of King’s College London to BRAC, 25 April – 4 May 2009. The mission was undertaken as part of a set of joint activities that BRAC and the HFP have initiated towards establishing a collaborative relationship.
The mission was a follow-on to the visit by the HFP’s Director to BRAC in December 2008. It was designed with a twofold objective: to provide an opportunity to further familiarise HFP staff with BRAC’s work and approach; and to provide the opportunity to test out selected HFP tools to support BRAC to self-assess its own capacity to anticipate and prepare for future humanitarian crises. The timing for this mission was particularly relevant as the strategy for BRAC’s DECC programme (see Annex 3) has recently been finalised to work on future issues related to disaster risk, environmental hazards and climate change.
