ALNAP activities for 2021-2022

Each spring, ALNAP assesses sector priorities and member feedback to identify how we can provide the most value to our network and the wider sector in the year ahead. We develop an annual work plan and budget which is agreed by our Steering Committee and shared with our membership.

Guided by ALNAP's 2019 - 2024 strategy, our new work plan for the financial year 2021/22 explains how we will:

Improve the quality and utility of evaluative evidence by:

• supporting monitoring & evaluation (M&E) practitioners adapt to COVID-19 by sharing useful resources and developing new learning opportunities
• delivering our popular M&E Skills-Building Workshops
• updating our guidance on using OECD DAC Evaluation Criteria in humanitarian settings
• carrying out research for a new paper on evaluating the humanitarian-development-peacebuilding nexus

Monitor the performance of the humanitarian system by:

• developing the 5th edition of our flagship State of the Humanitarian System (SOHS) report which will capture key trends over 12 years of humanitarian action.

Address gaps in sector-wide evidence and understanding by

• piloting new approaches to strengthening learning among humanitarian practitioners working in crisis-affected locations
• beginning a new research project focusing on locally-led humanitarian action
• sharing ALNAP research on humanitarian leadership and decision-making and responding to urban crises

Support system-wide learning by researching and releasing two new ALNAP Lessons Papers:

• ‘Adapting Humanitarian Action to Climate Change’ 
• An update of our 'Rapid Learning Review on COVID-19 in humanitarian settings'

Increase access to knowledge across the sector via:

• our themed portals, our HELP Library, and our Communities of Practice
• our new Communicating Humanitarian Learning (CHL) project
• our virtual Annual Meeting in October 2021, which will explore the future of humanitarianism post COVID-19

I’m really excited about ALNAP’s work in the coming year. We will deliver our Annual Meeting in October which will enable the sector to take stock of issues brought to light during the Pandemic and discuss where it goes from here.

We will lead system-wide learning on COVID-19 and update critical guidance on OECD DAC evaluation criteria. We are also working on our next     State of the Humanitarian System Report which will capture key trends over 12 years of humanitarian action.
