A humanitarian reset: impacts of a historic year

2020 has been a momentous year. But will it force a reset, or a even rethink, of a humanitarian system highly resistant to change?

Join the conversation with the Humanitarian Policy Group on December 4 to reflect on the events of the year from the Covid-19 pandemic to the Black Lives Matter protests to the US presidential election and the implications for a humanitarian system already grappling with longer-term global challenges. Will this be the moment that causes a shift in international humanitarian systems and champion local leadership?

HPG’s Director, Sorcha O’Callaghan, will be joined by:

  • Ambassador Reuben E. Brigety – Former United States Ambassador to the African Union and Vice Chancellor of University of the South, Tennessee
  • Nasra A. Ismail – Humanitarian Expert, Somalia
  • Ben Ramalingam – Lead Consultant, Innovation for Development, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)
  • Hugo Slim – Senior Research Fellow, Institute of Ethics, Law and Armed Conflict, Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford

We invite you to bring your own thoughts and reflections on the year to our conversation as well as any questions you may have for the panel.
