This case study concentrates on the first and second phase of the “Roads in the East” project (RinE). The first phase started in mid-2009, and finishes in March 2012 when the second phase starts. In addition, the case study will refer to lessons learned in other DFID road projects, such as the reconstruction of the Ituri II Bridge in 2009, and the Pro-Routes programme co-funded by DFID and the World Bank. The case study will also examine different approaches and experiences by other donors in the infrastructure sector such as the EU, USAID and an international NGO.
