The purpose of the conference reported in these pages was to ensure that educational opportunities of good quality are available to Syrian children, as well as to the children in vulnerable host communities. Building on the needs and gaps identified in the December 2013 conference, organized by UNESCO and UNHCR, and entitled: “Exploring an Education Response to the Syrian Refugee Crisis”, the conference was set in the context of several regional response initiatives, such as the Syria Humanitarian Action Response Plan (SHARP) and the Regional Response Plan (RRP), as well as the No Lost Generation (NLG), an international initiative by governments, the United Nations (UN), and international agencies and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
