The International Development Committee of the House of Commons requested that the National Audit Offi ce conduct a review of the response of the Department for International Development and others to the South Asia Earthquake of 8 October 2005.

This review was carried out during 2007 with the cooperation of the Department for International Development, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) and the DEC member Agencies. Details of the methodology can be found at Annex A.

While making suggestions to the DEC and its members, we recognise that it is for them to decide their relevance and any changes to procedures or practice.
