Humanitarians and their moral stance in war: the underlying values

This article analyses the moral values underlying humanitarian principles, asking the following questions: What were the original moral values? Have they changed? To what extent are they in danger today? Has humanity itself become an instrumental value? It examines the how these values have been described by humanitarians themselves and how they are used in specific contexts.
