Since April 2009, Save the Children has been implementing an ECHO-funded cash transfer project in Baac Payam, Aweil East County. The specific objective of this project was to improve dietary diversity and nutritional outcomes among the targeted households that inhabit a part of South Sudan which has some of the worse food security and health figures for the whole country, where a combination of chronic food insecurity, lack of access to clean water and sanitation facilities, regular disease outbreaks and poor child care practices have a negative impact on the nutrition status of people in the area. Compounding these problems is the high number of returnees to the area; all of which put pressure on household food security in their own ways. This evaluation covers the period July 2010 to March 2011, when four cash distributions provided by this grant took place.
