From model to movement: Standing by girls as they take the lead

Date

11:00 - 12:30, GMT -5

Ten years ago, CARE’s Tipping Point initiative set out to reduce child marriage by working with girls, their families, and their communities on the social norms standing in the way of girls choosing their own futures. We found letting girls lead their own way didn’t just reduce their risk of marrying early — it led to positive changes across all areas of their lives.

To mark International Day of the Girl, we are bringing together the partners and mentors who are supporting girls to lead change their way and influence the world around them.

Join us on October 11 as we explore how an adolescent empowerment model is bringing girls’ voices to locally led movements for change. 11:00-12:30 ET / 16:00-17:30 WAT

During this event you will hear how Tipping Point’s girl-led action model is having an impact in many countries, including in emergencies, the ways this can inject girls’ rights into any program, and how we as an INGO is shifting our role to be an ally and connector for the girls who are setting the agenda. Speakers include our partner WOREC Nepal, movement leaders and mentors in West Africa, a youth advocate from Bangladesh, and our program lead who supported expansion of the model to North-West Syria.

Plus, of course, prepare to be inspired by the voices of girls who are leading change their way! There will be opportunity to ask questions as part of the discussion.

Interpretation will be available in French, Spanish, and Arabic.
