This report presents an analysis of the INFORM Risk Index, a composite index that measures the risk of a humanitarian crisis or disaster that could require international assistance, would be affected by the impacts of climate change and socio-economic trends. The Index is on a 0-10 scale and includes 5 classifications of country from ‘very low’ to ‘very high’ risk.

Key findings from the report:

  • More than 5.5 billion people almost the double number today could be living in countries classified as having 'high' and 'very high' crisis risk.
  • Crisis and disaster risks will increase in all regions. Africa and lower income countries and regions will be worst affected.
  • More than 70% of countries with large predicted increases in crisis risk will not have the resources to cope.
