Update on ALNAP Lessons Paper on Ebola and Cholera Epidemics

18 Mar 2020

Thank you for your interest in the ALNAP Lessons Paper on Ebola and Cholera epidemics.

Since publishing the paper, it has been brought to our attention that there was an issue with one of the database searches, and this had led to several potentially relevant sources being excluded. We are very confident that the content in the paper is correct and supported by evidence, nonetheless it is probable that there is existing published knowledge which has not been considered.

We are committed to supporting our Membership in their endeavours to address humanitarian challenges by delivering the best possible quality in our learning products and services. We have therefore decided to remove the paper from our website, with a view to publishing a new and more complete version as soon as possible.

We have also received several requests to provide additional practical advice to support decision-makers who are planning for, or managing, epidemics. This will also be taken into account in the new version.

We do appreciate that this paper was a highly anticipated resource for many agencies and of interest to ALNAP Members who are engaged in contingency planning for COVID-19. There is a delicate balance between timeliness and rigour and we fully understand that some users may still find the original report to be useful. If you still wish to access the report (recognising that the evidence base may not be complete), please contact us at comms [at] alnap [dot] org.

In addition to this, we have developed a portal to support Members contingency planning for COVID-19: https://covid19.alnap.org.

The portal will be updated regularly and we invite you to upload any resources your organisation can contribute on the portal itself.

Thank you for your understanding.
