Invitation to participate in ALNAP M&E initiatives

08 Dec 2020

The breakout sessions from our Member events on 19 November provided the Secretariat with plenty of food for thought to inform our future work, particularly on the M&E front. As an ALNAP Member, Susanna Morrison-Metois and Samir Hafiz, ALNAP’s M&E research team, would like to invite you to participate in some exciting initiatives:

  1. Join our M&E Community of Practice: In December, we will be migrating the ALNAP Humanitarian M&E Community of Practice to a more interactive online platform that facilitates better discussion and networking amongst Members. You will be receiving email communications and reminders about the move in coming weeks. If you haven’t yet joined our Community of Practice, you can do so by following this registration link.

  2. Check out Evalmapper: In November, we launched ALNAP’s interactive online mapping tool for evaluations and a video of this discussion is now available. Have you used it yet? We look forward to your feedback.

  3. Express interest for Global Covid-19 Evaluation Coalition: ALNAP is part of the international coalition on COVID-19 Evaluation and will aim to strengthen the links between the Coalition and humanitarian evaluation and learning around COVID-19, while also promoting joint evaluation. Under the umbrella of this work, ALNAP has joined the management group for a Global Evaluation on Refugee Protection during COVID-19. ALNAP Members (including CSOs) who are interested in being involved in the Global Refugee Protection Evaluation’s reference group or in learning more about the Coalition, should express their interest to s [dot] morrison-metois [at] alnap [dot] org (subject: ALNAP%20M, E%20Workplan) (Susanna).

  4. Stay tuned for ALNAP M&E Skills-Building ‘Week’ in February: We are looking forward to welcoming you to a skills-building ‘week’ in late February. Three self-contained workshops will explore the changes in evaluation strategy and planning due to COVID-19; evolving evaluation methods and practices; and ethics in remote M&E data collection, respectively. Details on how to register will be shared in the coming weeks, and a plenary webinar highlighting discussions from all three workshops will be open to all Members in March.

  5. Watch out for the ALNAP workshop on evaluating cash and cash partnerships in March: Following ongoing research work with CALP on evaluating cash and cash-based programming, ALNAP will be organising an informal workshop in March. A background discussion paper will be shared in advance and Members are welcome to express interest in participating and/or sharing insights from their recent cash-related evaluations. Please contact s [dot] hafiz [at] alnap [dot] org (Samir) to express your interest.

  6. Take part in our methods work for evaluations of the Humanitarian-Development-Peace Nexus: In response to high demand from the Membership, ALNAP will be looking at methods and approaches to designing robust evaluation frameworks for nexus evaluations. Members who have conducted recent evaluations looking at the nexus and evaluators who have led these exercises are invited to contact s [dot] morrison-metois [at] alnap [dot] org (subject: ALNAP%20M, E%20Workplan) (Susanna). We hope to integrate this area into our 2021 workplan and want to hear from you about your work. If you have any questions or would like to speak to us directly about your priorities, please feel free to reach out to s [dot] morrison-metois [at] alnap [dot] org (subject: ALNAP%20M, E%20Workplan) (Susanna) or s [dot] hafiz [at] alnap [dot] org (Samir).

  7. Updating the ALNAP Guidance on using the DAC criteria in Evaluations of Humanitarian Action: Given the recent update to the OECD DAC Evaluation Criteria, ALNAP will be updating its 2006 Guidance on using the DAC criteria in evaluations of humanitarian action. A small advisory group will be set-up in early 2021 to help guide this work. Please reach out to s [dot] morrison-metois [at] alnap [dot] org (subject: ALNAP%20M, E%20Workplan) (Susanna) for more information.
