ALNAP is looking for your ideas to help shape our 32nd Annual Meeting

08 May 2019

This year, the ALNAP Annual Meeting will explore how diverse perspectives and priorities affect the relevance and appropriateness of humanitarian response.

The aim of the Meeting is to share learning on the most effective approaches to ensuring humanitarian support is, and stays, relevant to the people it is committed to assist.

Does this align with your work? Are there topics you think need to be addressed under this theme? Maybe you have a good story that illustrates the problem, or an innovative approach to address it?

The Secretariat is now specifically looking for ideas that can help shape the event on the following themes:

  • Relevance of the humanitarian system in new crises/contexts
  • Relevance in programme design within and outside of the humanitarian system (private/public sector, civil defence)
  • Staying relevant as crises evolve
  • Relevance of protection activities/responses
  • Scientific evidence of what's relevant vs cultural perspectives of what's relevant
  • Balancing different understandings of need: universal vs context-specific
Background

As the ALNAP Secretariat begins to prepare an agenda for the Meeting, we would like you to help shape the event and themes for discussion, by letting us know if there are any areas of your work that relate to the topic. This will help us to identify a diverse range of sessions and contributions and make the Meeting as useful as possible.

Breakout sessions and other Meeting activities will be designed from the ideas submitted. However, we are not asking you to propose an entire session plan. If you are working on  something that is relevant; if you think you could give a presentation; facilitate an activity or share a story that fits within the Meeting topic; please tell us about it. We will follow up and see how your ideas might fit within the Meeting structure.

The 32nd ALNAP Annual Meeting will feature a variety of formats, including: roundtables, debates, world cafes, interactive activities, storytelling, an ‘agora’ marketplace and a small number of panel sessions. Your contributions may be selected to feed into any of these formats, or may inspire completely new ideas.

Our call for ideas has now closed. Thank you to all who made a submission.
