Based on priority community needs and humanitarian service gap, CARE Ethiopia scaled up its emergency response interventions in food assistance, livelihoods, nutrition and WASH from February to December 2011 to reach a targeted 1,092,475 affected women, men, boys, and girls in communities in Borena, East and West Hararghe, and Southern Afar zones. The intervention reached 15,665 beneficiaries with water trucking; 5,480 beneficiaries with livestock intervention and in addition, with food distributions reaching 66,000 beneficiaries every month starting from February. CARE also secured a major livestock emergency project in April reaching 57,375 beneficiaries and a nutrition project in May reaching 14,697 beneficiaries.
